4 Star Strategy Rating

Age group(s) for which this strategy is helpful:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Instructions for using this strategy:
We removed our seven year old son from public school and began homeschooling him due to overcrowding in special ed and little results. I purchased a special reading system for children with learning disabilities to follow (there are many to choose from) and we are going through it at his pace. I also have the benefit of a private tutor who works with him twice a month.

What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
My son is thriving in this situation. At school he was losing self esteem - he felt like he should be reading like all the other kids his age. At home he is more aware of his progress - we praise every step - no matter how small. He has achieved more success in the last 6 months at home than in two years of public schools. One-on-one instruction is crucial for him and he just cannot get that in public school.
