About Gary

Following a traumatic childhood, Gary started his healing journey when another family took him in, which in turn inspired him to help other people heal and grow. To that end, Gary has served as a campus minister, a missionary in Japan, an entrepreneur in Hawaii, and a pastor, but is best-known as an award-winning author of 20 books. His authentic, compassionate and trusted voice in grief-recovery has helped many people gain comfort, hope, and healing. On top of his work as a writer, chaplain, and grief counselor, Gary has adopted seven children.
