- This is a very common Louisiana name. There was an Ardouin or Hardouin from Saintonge recorded in Quebec city in 1665. Other early settlers bearing this surname came from Clermont, Saintes, Bordeaux, Bayonne, and Languedoc. Etienne Ardouin of Montreal settled in Detroit around 1770; sometime later the family moved down the Mississippi, and are now concentrated around Ville Platte, LA.
