- Muslim (widespread throughout the Muslim world) : from the Arabic personal name ‛Abd al-‛Azīz ‘servant of the mighty’ or ‘servant of the beloved’. Al-‛Azīz ‘the Invincible’ or ‘the Beloved’ is an attribute of Allah. Al-‛Azīz (955–996) was the fifth Fatimid khalif of Egypt (975–996), noted among other things for his religious tolerance.
