- Ethnic name (in France and England as well as Germany and the Low Countries) for a native of Brabant, a medieval duchy (capital Brussels), which extended from what is now central Belgium northwards into the Netherlands. The name of the duchy is of Dutch origin. See also Brabazon.
- There is a Brabant or Brébant documented in Sillery, Quebec, from the Berry region of France, with the secondary surname Lamothe. Another, with the secondary surname Lecomte, from La Rochelle, is recorded in Montreal in 1696.
