- Polish and Jewish (from Poland) : habitational name for someone from a place called Czarnca in Kielce voivodeship, or any of the various places called Czarnocin or Czarnia, all named with Polish czarny ‘black’.
- The Czarnecki and Czarniecki noble families can be traced back to the 14th century. Stefan Czarniecki (1599–1665) was a famous military man and an outstanding commander-in-chief of the Polish Army at the time of the Swedish invasion. His name is even mentioned in the Polish national anthem.
