Family name origins & meanings
- Anglicized form of French Des Meaux (see Meaux). At least some of the bearers are of Huguenot origin, and came to North America via England when Protestants in France were persecuted following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. The name is also recorded in Scotland.
