- Czech (Dvořák) : status name for a rich farmer, one who owned a manor house, from Czech dvůr ‘manor’, ‘estate’, or in some cases an occupational name for someone who worked at a manor house rather than on the land. Compare Sedlak. In Moravia the term denoted a freeholder subject only to the king. This is the fourth most common surname in the Czech lands.
