  • Scottish : possibly an occupational name for a ferryman. Black reports that lands called Ferrylands in Dumbarton, by a ferry across the Clyde, belonged to Robert Ferrier in 1512.
  • Possibly southern French : occupational name for a smith, a variant of Ferrié (see Ferrie).
