- This name, borne by a Polish noble family, is recorded from the 16th century. Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860–1941), world-famous as a pianist and conductor, was also prime minister of Poland and minister of foreign affairs (1919–20), Polish delegate to the League of Nations, and president of the National Council of the Polish government in exile in London (1940–41).
