  • Chinese : from the name of the state of Ying, which existed during the Zhou dynasty (1122–221 bc). After Wu Wang established the Zhou dynasty in 1122 bc, he granted to his fourth son the state of Ying, along with the title Marquis of Ying. Descendants of the marquis later adopted the state name Ying as their surname.
  • Chinese : variant of Xing.
  • Chinese : there are two accounts of the origin of this surname, the character for which also means ‘hero’. One is a territory called Ying that existed during the Zhou dynasty (1122–221 bc) until its defeat by the state of Chu. The other source is a personage named Ying Bu who lived during the Han dynasty (206 bc–220 ad).
