Fabric Weaving
Fabric Weaving
Materials
- Large fabric scraps or pieces
- Scissors
- Piece of cardboard or Styrofoam
- Thumb tacks
Directions
Before your child starts weaving, cut a large square out of fabric canvas or a heavy-weight fabric which will create the frame your child will weave the thin strips of fabric in and out of. Leave an inch or two around the outside edge and then cut lines about three inches apart inside the square all going in one direction. Use the thumbtacks to loosely secure the piece of fabric to the cardboard. Take the remaining fabric and cut narrow strips out of it. Give these strips to your child and show him how to weave them in and out of the square. After the square is completely woven, stitch around the edge with a sewing machine to prevent unraveling. Use as a doll's blanket or place mat.
