Object Rubbings
Materials
- Black, brown, or dark blue crayons
- White drawing paper
Directions
Look around inside and outside with your child to try to find some textured surfaces on which to make rubbings. Small objects, such as coins, are good to start with. Later, try manhole covers, plaques, stucco, etc. Place the paper over the object and rub firmly back and forth with a crayon. An outline will soon appear. Rubbings can also be made of leaves, keys, woven baskets, and sidewalk cracks.
