Create a fall landscape using items collected in nature as your guide. Take a stroll outside with your child and collect leaves, twigs, pebbles, and anything else you think might look good in a painting. This activity takes a few days to be completed, but your child will love the end result. Carve a face into an apple and soak it in a bowl of salt water for about an hour, then set it out to dry. As the days go by, the apple will shrink, making it look like a little apple head, perfect for a homemade doll or puppet.

To make the face, peel an apple and remove the core. Use a butter knife to create a face (supervise children closely). Give younger children a head start by defining basic facial features.

Place the apple in a bowl of salty water to begin the drying process. Let the apple soak for about an hour, then dry it with a paper towel.
