Papier-Mâché Balloon

Materials

  1. Newspaper
  2. Balloon
  3. Flat dish or pan
  4. Paints and paint brushes
  5. Paste—wallpaper or wheat
  6. Yarn or rubber band

Directions

Mix the paste until it is thin and creamy, then pour a little into a flat pan. Tear the newspaper into narrow strips six to eight inches long. Have lots and lots of them. Blow up the balloon and tie it tightly with the yarn or rubber band. Dip the newspaper strips in the paste and apply to the outside of the balloon. Cover the balloon completely and then repeat with two or three more layers. Smooth the surface with your hands and wipe off any excess paste. Allow the paper to dry completely for a day before decorating with paint and paint brushes.
