Yarn Dog Activity for Kids

Yarn Dog

Materials

  1. Colored rug yarn or thick 8-ply knitting wool
  2. Paper
  3. White glue or glue stick
  4. Dog photos or pictures
  5. Cardboard

Directions

Trace a large clear picture of a dog onto the cardboard. This is just the basic outline, so don't worry about it looking exactly like the picture. Draw a mouth and eyes and outline the ears and tail. Cut the yarn or wool into one or two-inch strands. Use an egg carton to separate the colors and to make selecting and handling of yarn easier. Show your child how to glue the yarn strands onto the dog outline, creating fur-like patterns. Once the dog is finished, give the dog a name and make up a story explaining how the dog came to have such brightly colored fur.
