Holiday Candleholder

Age: Preschool and up
Time: An afternoon
Type of activity: Nature Arts and Crafts

In addition to lighting up your home, your child can give these candleholders as gifts to light up a friend or relative's holiday.

Materials needed:

  • Baby food or small glass jar
  • Tissue paper (assorted colors)
  • Glue
  • Mixing bowl
  • Paintbrush
  • Ribbon
  • Glitter
  • Ribbon
  • Small votive candle.

    What to do:

Step One: Dilute a small amount of glue with water in the mixing bowl.

Step Two: Tear the tissue paper into squares.

Step Three: Using the paintbrush, cover the outside of the glass jar with the diluted glue mixture.

Step Four: Lay a piece of tissue paper on the jar. Cover the entire jar with the tissue paper. Try overlapping contrasting colors in some areas, or making a design with the paper.

Step Five: Sprinkle a bit of glitter over the paper to add a sparkly effect.

Step Six: Tie a ribbon around the top of the jar. Add a dab of glue underneath the ribbon to help it stay in place.

Step Seven: Let the jar dry.

Now your candleholder is ready to glow!
