Fairy Costume
Time: 2 hours
Effort: Some sewing required
Materials:
- Leotard
- Tights
- Ballet skirt/tutu
- Ballet shoes
- Mesh or lacy material
- Wire or 2 coat hangers (for wings)
- Small piece of cardboard 5" x 10"
- Scissors
- Heavy-duty tape and/or glue
- Wand (make your own wand, or buy one at any costume/party store)
- Glue and glitter (or glitter glue)
- Needle and thread
- Body glitter
Instructions: Make wings by bending 2 pieces of wire or 2 coat hangers into wing shapes. Cover them with the mesh/lace material, stitching it on around the frame with needle and thread.
Apply glue on the wings in swirls and shake on some glitter to decorate. (It may be easier to use glitter glue.)
Cut two slits about three inches apart and three inches long in the center of the cardboard. Cut a long, thin strip of mesh/lace material and thread it thru the slits. Attach the wings to the outer edges of the cardboard with heavy-duty tape and/or glue.
Have your child dress in the leotard, tights, and ballet skirt and shoes. Mount the wings by positioning them on the middle of your child's back and wrapping the ties around the front of the body, crisscrossing them over the chest, and tying them behind the neck.
Apply body glitter to her face, give her the wand...and she's ready to go!
