Pippi Longstocking Costume

This Halloween, your daughter can dress up as one of the most popular and famous characters in children's literature and movies. Follow these simple directions to create a homemade Pippi Longstocking costume.

Pippi Longstocking Costume

Time: A few hours to buy the stuff

Effort: Easy - no sewing required

Materials:

  • Wire
  • Cheap red hair dye (that washes out in a shampoo)
  • Two strips of ripped cloth and hair ties
  • Brown eye pencil
  • 2 mismatched stockings
  • Short overalls or dress
  • Bright T-shirt
  • Boots

Instructions: Go to a re-sale shop to pick up the stockings, a cotton dress or overalls, and some boots. Die your child's hair with red dye. Put the clothes on. Part her hair down the middle and divide it into two sections. Secure with a hair tie on each side by her ears. Stick a piece of wire into the hair tie and braid the hair around it, then secure with another tie. Then form the wire so it looks like the braid is flipped up (like Pippi's) and repeat on the other side. Make a bow at the end of the braids with the ripped strip of cloth. Take the brown eye pencil and make freckles on her cheeks.

Tips: Try to find a little stuffed monkey to fasten to your child's shoulder. This is a cute, original costume for all ages.
