Statue of Liberty Costume

Time: 40-60 minutes

Effort: Quick and easy - no sewing required

Materials:

  • Green or white bed sheet
  • Green Rit-dye (if you have a white bed sheet)
  • Green or white poster board (2 pieces)
  • Green paint (if you have white poster board)
  • Black marker
  • Yellow tissue paper
  • Glue or string
  • Green face paint
  • Scissors
  • Headband (optional)

Instructions: If you are using a white bed sheet, dye it green and hang to dry. Cut a piece of poster board and color it green. Then roll it into a cone and glue in place. This is the torch bottom. Crumple the tissue paper and stuff into the cone to mimic a torch flame. Cut another piece of poster board into a crown. Color it green and use black marker to outline. Glue crown to a headband or attach string to either side and tie on head. Tie sheet around child like a toga. Put on green face paint.

Variation: Create a torch by covering a flashlight in foil and gluing red and yellow tissue paper to its face.
