A Hearty Valentine's Welcome
Welcome visitors to your home with this lovely heart-shaped slate sign. You can put this out for Valentine's Day or make other signs with your kids' names on them to hang on their bedroom doors.

Roses are a symbol of Valentine's Day. In ancient times roses symbolized peace and war as well as love and forgiveness. The type of roses you send to a loved one can have a hidden meaning. Red roses symbolize passion, white roses are for true love and innocence, yellow roses mean friendship, and black roses symbolize farewell.

Time involved: One to two hours
Materials:
- Transfer or carbon paper
- Scissors
- Heart-shaped slate (This can be found in craft stores in the slate section.)
- Masking tape
- Copy paper or tracing paper
- Pen
- Pink, red, brown, black, and white craft paints
- Paintbrushes
- Foam plate
- Clear acrylic finish spray
Cut a piece of transfer or carbon paper to fit the heart-shaped slate. Tape this to the slate. Using copy or tracing paper, trace the following Valentine design. Place the copy or tracing paper on top of the transfer paper and tape it in place. Using a pen and moderate pressure, trace over the design to transfer it to the slate. Remove the copy paper and transfer paper from the slate.

Paint the design in with the appropriately colored craft paints. Paint the bear brown with a black nose and the hearts pink or white. Allow the slate to dry.
Spray the slate with clear acrylic finish spray and allow it to dry.
