Magnet Sculpture

Your child's experience with gravity is challenged in this activity, which uses magnets to create shapes and sculptures.

Magnet Sculpture

Time

  • 15 to 30 minutes

Materials

  • Bar magnet
  • Small paper clips

Directions

  1. This activity challenges experience with gravity. Magnetize the clips by rubbing them on the bar in one direction.
  2. Once they have acquired a magnetic field, they can be stood end to end vertically, connected horizontally, or moved to form amazing shapes.

Extensions

  • See how tall you can make a sculpture.
  • Bring the clips out as far as you can horizontally without tipping them over.
