Pet Grooming

Here's a "business idea" for kids who enjoy working with pets: they can wash and groom the pets of friends and family members.

Pet Grooming

Materials

  • Pet shampoo
  • Flea and tick shampoos
  • Bath brush
  • Towels
  • Hair brushes and combs
  • Hair dryer
  • Large tub
Directions

Dog and cat grooming is a good business if you like animals and you don't mind getting wet.

  1. First, make sure you have a secure area where dogs can be washed and rinsed.
  2. Remove burrs or knots before wetting.
  3. Follow the directions on the shampoo bottle and avoid getting shampoo in the animal's eyes, ears, and mouth.
  4. After rinsing thoroughly, pat with a towel and allow the dog to shake. Small dogs can be dried with a hair dryer on low temperature.
  5. Using a wide-toothed comb, comb the hair starting low and working towards the backbone.
  6. Finally, brush the coat in the direction of the natural fur lines.
Note: Cats and other small animals should not be wet-shampooed. Combing and brushing are acceptable and there are insecticidal powders for the removal of fleas and ticks. Carefully follow the directions.
