Rebus-Making
In this activity, children create a puzzle, using pictures instead of words to write a letter.
Rebus-Making
Materials
- Paper
- Pencil
- Colored pens
You can create a letter or story using pictures and symbols instead of words. This is called a REBUS.
Here are some examples:
- instead of "I," draw an eye
- instead of "can," draw a watering can
- instead of "love," draw a heart
- instead of "be," draw a bee
Note: Rebus comes from a Latin word meaning "things." In the old days, signs and posters advertising carnivals were painted with pictures and no words to show people what "things" were going on.
