Q
What exactly is cyberschooling? How does it compare to homeschooling?
A
As parents and students search for more effective ways to learn, they are discovering a wealth of resources on the Internet. Cyberschooling is not separate from homeschooling, but rather one more choice available to those who choose to learn at home. Classes in just about every subject imaginable are available from many different schools, universities, curriculum providers, private enterprises, etc. Some are accredited diploma programs, others are enjoyable pursuits in specialty areas. Costs range from free to several thousand dollars. Homeschool Your Child for Free by LauraMaery Gold and Joan M. Zielinski lists more than 1,200 (free) resources for home education on the Internet.
I would not choose cyberschooling as my only or even primary resource. I prefer personal interaction, the library, and hands-on experiences for most subjects. However, as a supplemental learning tool, particularly for challenging or advanced placement classes, online learning can be very effective.
