I am a junior in high school and I have no idea what to do with myself after graduation. I am torn between being a writer, an actress, or an entertainment lawyer. My grades are high, but not high enough to go anywhere I want. I'm thinking of just going to community college, but would rather not. The whole idea of college and what it takes to get in frightens me. Can you help?
A
Your confused thoughts and feelings are very natural. Talk with your school counselor, who will be able to offer ideas and suggestions. You have some great interests. Now consider doing some research to discover more about the talents and skills that are important in these fields. Try to find someone in your community who works in the areas that interest you. Ask her how she prepared for her career, and what she likes - and dislikes -- about her job. Most people will be happy to share their insights with you. There are so many avenues for continuing your education. Two websites that offer a wealth of information about college programs are collegeview.com and collegeexpress.com. Enjoy exploring and keep asking lots of questions!
