I'm 30 years old and I don't have my GED yet, but I plan to go take my test in September. I'm also interested in going to college. Do you think that a 30-year-old woman should go back to school? I really want to study mass communications and journalism. I want to know, since I will only have a GED, what I will need to do to get into a college that will offer me the classes I need. And do you think it will be hard to get into a college with only a GED?

Congratulations! You are about to embark on some great, rewarding life changes. You are certainly not too old. There are 60-year-olds going back for their degrees, so you are well within the age range! I know many successful business professionals who got their GEDs and are now making tremendous contributions in their jobs, with their families, and the community as a whole. Your life experience is very attractive to schools, so don't sell yourself short. You have gained a lot from working and being out in the world and you have a lot to offer in school and on the job.
Call a few journalism and mass communication schools and ask them for the requirements for admission. Also, keep your options open for other majors, like English, which may be compatible with your interests in writing and speaking. Keep your faith in yourself strong! You are going to make a big difference in the world, so remind yourself every day of the special qualities you have to offer.
