Q
Are there any accredited homeschool programs for LD students?
A
I'm not familiar with an accredited homeschool program designed specifically for the child labeled LD. However, in my experience, parents who choose to homeschool their LD child have been very pleased with the results. In fact, the child once labeled "LD" is sometimes symptom-free after a few months of homeschooling, or, with a severe disability, greatly improved. These parents do not follow a program specifically designed for LD kids, but rather adapt existing programs or create their own.

I'm always amazed when reading recommendations for helping the LD child learn: one-on-one attention; no distractions; a comfortable, familiar environment; and an individualized program. Sounds like homeschooling to me! One word of caution: If you try to duplicate a typical school curriculum at home, you are going to run into the same problems the child experienced at school. Your goal is to emphasize your child's strengths, work around his perceived weaknesses, and instill a love of learning. There are many ways to accomplish this goal, and using textbooks, worksheets, and rote memorization is the least effective. Choosing a Homeschool Curriculum will help you find information about accredited schools and creating your own curriculum.
