If you have a fairly good grade point average and get along well with your peers and younger children, you are a good candidate for a tutoring business. Most parents are anxious to have their children succeed at math and reading. Offer to travel to the home of the person needing tutoring and take along your materials. Consider designing a flyer to advertise your tutoring business and distribute it in elementary schools and youth organizations. Make sure you are available after school and weekends.
Note: A special and rewarding challenge is tutoring students with learning disabilities. See your Special Needs teacher at school and ask for advice and strategies. You could also volunteer to help out during school hours and develop some skills in this area.
