Q
Could you recommend a place where I can see a sample of an IHIP (Individualized Home Instruction Plan) that meets the requirements of the New York City Board of Education? Is there also a place where I can see a model of a quarterly report?
A
On the "New York Education Code for Homeschoolers" page (www.gomilpitas.com/homeschooling), you'll find an outline of the required content of an I.H.I.P. and a quarterly report.

I suggest you read the extensive Questions and Answers (www.nyhen.org/SED-QA.htm) published by the New York State Education Department. Unfortunately, New York is not a "homeschool friendly" state. However, as a result of the unnecessarily restrictive regulations, many homeschool information groups have formed to create an unusually cohesive network of support. These groups advise parents on creative ways to meet the legal requirements without compromising their personal integrity. Contact one of these groups for more information and support at www.gomilpitas.com/homeschooling.

LEAH (Loving Education at Home) publishes a manual (for $15) that includes a sample I.H.I.P and quarterly report. LEAH (www.leah.org) is a Christian organization that promotes a biblical view of education and requires a statement of faith to join.

Be sure to visit our How to Homeschool topic page for more homeschooling resources.

Good luck!
