Sharing Adventures: Reading to Your Two-Year-Old

Reading to toddlers can help their imagination grow and build their vocabulary.

Sharing Adventures: Reading to Your Two-Year-Old

Two is a terrific age for reading to your child. Your toddler wants to build her vocabulary and will eagerly sit to hear stories that offer her new words to learn. But reading books to your toddler does much more than just build language skills. Storybooks transport your child into new worlds of imagination.

Although your two-year-old will still enjoy simple, single-picture-per-page books, she'll also welcome storybooks now. So you now can begin introducing some of the best-loved books from your own childhood.

The best way to nurture a love of books and reading in your child is to read to her every day. By introducing your toddler to a ridiculous character, fun and fascinating stories, and silly poems, the best children's books will encourage her to want to read more. At the same time, these books will help your child become better able to express herself.
