1. Does your child know the basics of car maintenance, such as how to change the oil?
Are you kidding? I'm not even sure my child knows that cars run on gas.
2. Does your child know how to budget?
Yep. He decides in advance how much he can spend on such things as entertainment and eating out, and I can trust him not to overspend at the grocery store.
3. Does your child know how to take care of basic household chores?
I don't dare ask her to do the laundry, unless I want all our clothes to be pink. I'm not sure she even knows what a plunger is for.
4. Does your child know how credit cards work?
Definitely. He uses it at Macy's now and Dad pays the bill later.
5. Does your child have a reliable source of income?
She has a job, but she's only been there for a short time, or doesn't make enough to be sure of being able to cover her expenses.
6. Is your child responsible about utility usage in your home?
No. I'm fairly certain he thinks we have unlimited resources, and that heat, water, and electricity are free.
7. Does your child know how to cook?
No. She has her favorite takeout joints on speed dial for any night I don't cook.
8. Does your child have enough money put aside for the initial cost of moving?
No. I don't think he understands the concept of saving.
9. Is your child a good decision maker?
She almost never asks for help, which can get her into trouble, or she never dares to do anything on her own without asking me first.
10. Does your child socialize responsibly?
No. Some of the people he brings home frighten me, frankly, and his parties can be out of control.
